Before you call
Having a few things ready gets a plumber to the right job faster:
- The address, including the unit number for apartments and condos
- What you see: water where, how much, and since when
- Whether you have shut off the water or gas, and where the shut-off is
- The age of the house, if you know it, and whether the basement is finished
- For businesses: the access instructions and any backflow or permit paperwork
If water is spreading
Shut off the main water valve first, usually near the meter where the line enters the basement. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility or 911 from outside, then call us for the repair.
